Oh right on! Ube customs are an interesting bit of dama history!
I remember wanting one, but when I emailed to ask about a sparkly 2 colour fade, the quote came back at $120 USD, plus I had to ship a dama both ways. So in total it would have been close to $200 CAD for the kendama ($30 to buy an Ozora, probably $25 to ship it both ways, $120 to paint, plus exchange rate). Back then the most expensive kendamas on the market were like $50 otherwise, so I didn't go for it.

I think that was actually the first direct contact I had with @DaveMateo, he was working for Ube, or at least answering emails for him.

Man that's a shame it's an amazing piece of art. I guess I got lucky haha ended up only paying shipping to and from as there was a muck up with the order and he refused to let me pay for it. I got it about 6 months late haha totally worth the wait though.

Ah that's awesome! Now looking at it, one with his style of art on it would be worth the price, originally I was just looking for a fade though, I guess in that respect it's good I didn't follow through? I guess having one of his damas would be rad either way though.
Either way, great piece in your collection!
