Grain Theory looks like they are stopping the production of a few of their spectrum colorways.
    The GT-1 Rojo: http://graintheory.bigcartel.com/product/gt-1-spectrum-rojo
    and
    The GT-1 Mojito: http://graintheory.bigcartel.com/product/gt-1-spectrum-batch-3
Say a the bottom of the description
"Last batch of {Rojo/Mojito} GT1s to ever be made. So if you wanted to cop this is your last chance."

I LOVE the look of both of these colorways, and am very disappointed :eek: that they are being discontinued.

Do any of you have an idea why this is happening?
    I have 2 theories:

    1. These colorways were not successful.

    2. The company (I believe they make spectraply gun-stocks) is not supplying these laminates to other companies using their spectrum dowels or blocks.

    What do you think?

My god this is such a click bait title I thought it was going to be like they're shutting down or something.
In my personal opinion I'd believe the second one more legitimatly than the first one. When did any Spectraply from GT not do well? At the same time, they've been restocking the same colors for quite some time now (only a unique color way here and there). These are just one of few color ways they're getting rid of (remember their motto. Small batches. Big ideas.) and now they can keep on exploring different types of colors and patterns. You don't know, there might be a chance where a new color way might become your new favorite.

    Hahaha clickbait thread titles

But I think that the colorways weren't very popular, and why keep on making something no one really wants to buy?
There was this one time during a KG Tuesday where there were four rojo GTs being used by four different people. Like we all managed to play a group game of KEN using all rojo GTs, but that was a rare day cause I haven't even seen a Rojo besides my own since then

It's just that GT wants to keep them somewhat limited. This is nothing new, they've done it in the past to plenty of color ways, i.e. pinky, go purp, capp, beech, etc.

Possible that they are going to make them in their new shape but not in the GT1 anymore

I can only imagine it's to keep them limited. If they keep them limited it creates more demand for future coloways and for resale

I wouldn't count it out tbh. I feel like a lot of people thought the mochas were done for because they were released so early on, and then they released em again in GT-1 and GT-NS form

If the patterns continue, would you assume that the BH and KA would follow with spectraply versions of the shape? Most popular color schemes would likely to release first for the sake of keeping the stoke sky high.

Hell yeah, there's no way they won't release spec versions of the new mods. I'm guessing late this year unless they wanna do more hardwoods.

I can already imagine the KA mod with the prospect colors

I would love for GT to make a batch of specs which are not colored at all.
That’ll really mess with people for a bit.

    “Oh, that’s a nice natty!”

It could also have something to do with the manufacturer of Spectraply changing their support of their wood laminate and the somewhat lower durability of kendama made out of Spectraply causing problems for the kendama makers. Sweets is also discontinuing their Spectraply models as I understand it.

Well that sucks! I was looking for a green goblin NextGenHG. I thought they were waiting to move before releasing another batch of NextGenHG specs. I'll start a ISO thread in the exchange when I think it's time.

I thought Sweets makes their own spectraply? Or at least that's what it seemed like in their homegrown video they made.

I couldn't say if both GT and Sweets use the same Spectraply manufacturer but I do know that both mention durability on their sites.

    GT
***The Spectrum series is a bit more FRAGILE than solid hardwood due to the nature of the amount of laminated Birch used in construction.

    Sweets
**Due to the layered/laminated nature of Spectraply, it is not quite as durable as most of the hardwoods we use and won’t hold up as well with strong impacts. Use extra caution when playing with a Spectraply Kendama. We will not offer any returns or exchanges on products that have been used. Please inspect your Kendama carefully for manufacture defects before playing.**

Both companies have always had this warning as a precautionary for obvious reasons. I also remember a while back GT released their black cherry colorway and out of pure coincidence, Sweets released their own version called harvest moon. Literally the same spectrum blocks and they weren't even aware that they both picked the same spectrum blocks to make a ken. That's when I think Sweets started doing their own color ways so that it doesn't happen ever again (correct me if I'm wrong because I'm pretty sure I'm wrong about this).
Maybe @CodyGriz can help us out if Sweets manufactures their own spectraply?
