TEEPEE REZ KEN

Resin Kendamas after REZ?

  1. Great! I love to see more variety in this category

  2. Bad - REZ will continue to be the only respectable ResinKendama Maker

So after Rez went out of business (RIP) I was worried that I'd never get my hands on a Resin Ken (Yes, Rizen makes some but I don't want to support that company - personal preference).
Now i saw on Insta and FKC that this spanish (?) brand TEEPEE is going to release some very soon and IMO they look great
    https://www.teepeekendamas.com/
I hope that I'll be able to cop one.
Also they mentioned that they should be very affordable. (40-50€ range)

What's your opinion on this Teepee Rez ken or Resin Kens in general - all knockoffs of REZ? - or Great that other companies continue the resin ken route?

As long as they are clean and crisp like a rez I'll take it. These look very clean compared to *coughrizencough*
Nothing can replace rez but these do look extremely good.

These look pretty nice. Big cups and that base reduction would probably make this thing a monster on the loons.

REZ set a quality standard. AFAIK the only other resin ken available was Rizen (there’s another thread about REZ v Rizen on here, give it a read) but their kens lacked the quality that REZ had; air bubbles all over the ken plus a somewhat lower quality resin all lead to them cracking and breaking easier.
I think if Teepee and/or other people looking to manufacture resin kendamas for sale are able to make it their own (the Teepee shape is far and away from the REZ shapes) and keep a certain level of quality in their resin kens then they can set themselves a part from what REZ did. There’s absolutely room for resin made kens, people though should expect some criticism when their product is compared to the goat (REZ).

Also, just a semantics thing but calling other non-REZ made resin kens REZ is basically the same as referring to for instance Krom Pop kens as Sweets Prime kens because they both have boosted cups.
REZ isn’t a catch all term for resin made kens.

that's true but I've always referred to resin (no matter wether it was for kendamas or carbonfibre etc) as Rez - which is why I wrote TeePee Rez and not TeePee REZ (as in REZ KEN)

There's a linguistic phenomenon called generification... for instance: most people refer to Q-tips when they mean cotton swabs, or Kleenex when they mean tissue. That's what appears to be happening in this case. Legally it makes things difficult for companies holding Trademarks on a name, but it is well documented and as much as you may want to prescribe against it, it is a natural linguistic process.
(Just a little linguistics and law discussion tossed in since the issues popped up - lol)

Like a few others, I'm just hoping that TeePee uses resin that won't crack easily and are paying attention to the quality of the kens. If it ends up playing like a Rizen, then I might just keep the ken for the aesthetic and not even play it at all.

So I have been writing with the owner of TeePee and he claims to have found a resin he likes more than rez resin.
Also the shape is New Gen but with thinner cups than on primes and it weighs around 75-80g.
Also there are going to be two versions: One with a huge basecup hole aka a Loonmonster and a balanced ken.
Personally I really really look forward to them

Resin kendamas are notorious for having poor quality and copying others ideas. I would not suggest buying them. A real REZ is worth your money.

a real rez at retail yes. But prices people want for them now are a no go.
Also Teepee is using their own shape and a new resin. So the only copied idea would be the ken made out of resin

They have also made the kusa and sweets color ways exactly. The owner just copies whatever.

70/30 splits are nothing new and basic - nobody can claim this for a brand imo
same for halfsplits, solids and nattys
triple stripes are kusa/tribute but like every company copied them but KUSA has no Blue + Gold / red + gold as far as i know
I'd like to know what you consider copied then

If I recall right, someone on FKC once commented that because of the thinness of the Ken under the Sarado (like the prime or pop shapes), the Ken would split in half at that point. I'm assuming they said this because Resin isn't as solid a material as wood, so Resin Kens are prone to splitting even when made properly.

That being said, if the maker did use a material that he says is better than REZ's resin, I wish him the best.

There have been many resin companies, most have failed. I would be really interested to see some drop tests for these kens like how Kris did with Rez. To me that sarado is suspect.
