This might be an unpopular opinion but I don’t really care about full POV edits. They make me get a little nauseous. I think it’s fine for parts of the edit to be in POV but the whole thing is not worth it honestly. Not calling anyone out or anything but if you make a full POV I’ll probably not watch the whole thing. I think the fun part about watching an edit is diversity with shot styling.

how does everyone feel about POVs

I like them for the most part, but some tricks definitely dont fit in a POV edit imo like spacewalks, and others tend to get boring even if they are impressive tricks like multi flip juggles.

I agree with you. It's not really hype to watch, it's very limiting as far as creativity and overall makes a boring ass edit IMO. I can't really see what's going on so it's meh. And I agree with Keegan on the multi juggle tricks.

One of, if not my top favorite edit is still Colin Sander’s Practicing Kendama. Definitely a well done POV edit imo and this was way before all the new gen styles of play today.

POV has a place, but I agree, full edit of it is kinda meh, aesthetically. It can be a great way to show off tech tricks, but its nice to see a little more production value than just that

Not saying some of the tricks are good but a full one I don’t care for. Colins is probably the best one in my opinion.
Thanks to everyone who answered this really enjoy knowing everyone’s stance

Coming from someone who has no GoPro or other equipment for POV clips, I love POV clips!

It captures the difficulty, creativity, and skill involved in some tricks that can't really be appreciated when filming normally. Prime example of this is Mr. Chris Brown (aka Shonuff Chris) from Terra.

I don’t own any of that equipment either. And that’s very true for certain tricks like Chris they are the best type of shots (shout out to Chris!), but tricks that don’t have super creative attributes might not be the best.
Also I know I’ve said it before but variety for aesthetic shots is what gets me hyped to watch videos just not looking down at the ground

I feel like there's a pretty distinct body of tricks that really look best in POV. Since I don't have a POV setup, I've not really gravitated towards learning or filming these kind of tricks, but I really enjoy seeing them in POV shots. Prime examples are, as was already mentioned, shonuff chris and others doing tech stuff.

For pretty much any trick that can involve more body movement, I'm significantly more interested in a non POV shot tho tbh.

I like POV edits myself, lol they don’t make me nauseous (I usually have anti nausea meds in me when I’m watching a Kendama edit, lol usually have those meds in me 24/7 anyways.. as I’m a MMJ advocate and Rec user) and I enjoy seeing the tech side of the trick. I feel like they give you more insight on how the trick is actually “hit” or the move u have to perform to land a trick(correct pull-up technique) which I can appreciate. I know filming myself in POV and then looking at my clips has helped me see where I’ve messed up and how to dial something in cleaner.. most Edits are only 3min or so roughly, I agree if a full 20min edit or whatever(tour vid) is done in POV no one would watch because it would be too long and annoying from one perspective, but for these short “mini” edits I think POV full on works ok

To add, I think the novelty of POV clips is the feeling of "stepping into the shoes" of pro players. For most beginners in kendama or people who don't play at all, it offers an amazing perspective into the possibilities of kendama. The caveat though is that some tricks look better in the "third person" than in POV, and vice versa.

I love POV edits, you can see the tricks super clearly. My biggest pet peeve are when edits have a super busy background/dark lighting so you can't see what's going on.
