Personally I love the cush paint! It does peel off over time but the paint gets better too! And if you get a decade mod I prefer cush and a lot of people do to but I know there hard to find

I got myself a dama dealer with both on lock but i think i might just stick with the sticky and get a side Cush tama with it because for the most part I’m sure the sticky will be fine for a while as long as i switch my kendamas around . I got a
    V23
    V21/TYTY analog ken
And moon safari reed stark maple
So i should be able to keep my army healthy ... might look into beezwaxin. ... a side note my dealer was saying the Cush on the v23 and v21 have been kinda crappy compared to other model tamas so I’m like damn man i wish i could try before i buy

    Hi everyone!
So i'm new to Downspike, but I have been in kendama for about a year now, and I'm planning on getting a fresh one in about a week. Now, all damas I ever had were maple, and I really loved that, but Krom recently released nee promods, and all of them come in maple or in "walnut ken and walnut maple striped dama". Since I never tried walnut, and I would like to try something new, I was thinking about that one, but I don't want to get something that I won't be thrilled to use since I won't be getting another one soon
So, anyone who used both maple and walnut kendamas, what should I get? And even more importantly, what are the differences and which tricks do you think go better with each?
    Thanks guys, in advance!

(Btw, kendamas are bonz atron and jake fischer headshot promods)

Walnut is a much lighter wood compared to almost all other woods used in kendama. Even with the size that the mod will be, it should be obvious what the weight difference is compared to the same mod in maple.
Tbh, I say get it. Doesn’t sound like you’ve really tried a lot outside of what you currently have. Maybe you’ll like walnut wood itself, or maybe you’ll like the lighter weighted setups. Or maybe you’ll find that you prefer what the maple setups you’re used to are like. Only way to find out is try as many new things in kendama as you can.

Yeah that's excatly the reason why I wanted to get it, It's just that I started really working on my juggles and taps and I really want a ken that will make that experience joyful:) thanks!

Maybe somebody could correct me, but I think I've heard walnut is softer than maple, so careful when playing on concrete or doing taps and instas... However, it being soft also means it breaks in for stalls really well

Depending on the variant of Walnut and Maple you could be correct. Janka hardness rating for NA Walnut is 1010 and NA Maple is 1450 for example (depending on the table you check). Also if you're looking at wood finishers like Kenditioner then usually Walnut kendama really soak up the mixture; not so much for Maple usually.

We've been seeing more "which should I get" threads so several have been merged with this older thread to put all the info in one place. A lot of people are trying to make kendama purchase decisions and hopefully this thread will make it easier to find info rather than having to search the whole forum for multiple threads. Thanks for your understanding.

Here's a related thread with links to various new kendama searches.

I have the iy bday and now I'll be getting a headshot... they are both slaydawgs so I don't think there will bee much difference, maybe bday will feel a bit more classic and I feel like headshot will feel better with lunars :)
