Everyone with an internet connection knows by know the gravity of the current global pandemic. There's no way we can extrapolate data to know how this plans out, but even by conservative estimates, tens of millions will die, globally. Big data is hard to think about practically, so let's put it this way: every one of us will directly know someone who dies of COVID-19. I'm sure everyone here is sick of hearing about it. SO, while we #staythefuckhome and wash our hands, why not do a new type of #28trickslater? What if we did a DS community edit, while we are all cooped up? We could even do a "Tip Jar" on Vimeo and donate all proceeds to meals on wheels, the red cross, or some other helpful organization. We could call it SlayVid-19 (if only it was still 2019) Discuss....
loving the idea. I have already started filming for my own "Corona Compilation" or something along those lines. If the community edit happens I'll be glad to use my clips for that. Only problem is my gopro dies from time to time but all that is managable lol
Sorry I know this isn’t about the “stay the F home challenge” but I do want to challenge the community to help/donate where & when you can. I’ve got a decent amount of 10/10 damas I’m going to be auctioning off on here and/or IG to highest bidders with reserves in place, to try and raise money for my friends in service industry that are out of jobs/work and are possibly going to be facing difficult days to come. I have a bunch of SOL collabs, A rare exotic wood sweets rolling pin, I think I have some Sweets (boost shaped kendamas). Be on the look out in the Sales/Exchange thread and DM me on IG @jsteez5024 for quick responses.
SlayVid-19 lol @Cheech_Sander I like it, I posed a bit on Terra yesterday encouraging dama players to jump online as well. I'm holed up in the workshop by myself for the next couple weeks, stay healthy out there dama people
We've been trying out video chat programs to see about doing virtual jams. So far we've had the best luck with Skype group video chat. Second is Google Hangouts. We tried Zoom but the bandwidth requirements seem a bit high and it's not as intuitive as the others.
Heads-up, we've got a post for those interested in d'Sesh jams now. Check it out and connect with others no matter their location.
It's scheduled a month later than usual, August 22-23, because they didn't want it at the same time as the Olympics but those are canceled as is the JKA's World Open Festa which were due in July. Japan recently upped its emergency status so there will likely be a lot of schedule shifting and cancelations though I wouldn't want to put money on it one way or the other. NAKO says they're on no matter what either in person or over the internet.
Its a little bit early, but my bet is KWC doesn't happen, or happens in a reduced capacity. Covid isn't just going to disappear entirely after social distancing for a couple months, It is hard to imagine international travel opening up and being easily accessible to everyone by summer. And even if it does, how many people are going to send it? A lot of people are scared, and affected by the economic turmoil. Maybe it will be more domestic-focused, but only time will tell. No easy decisions for GLOKEN to make. FYI, Van Jam is looking to be in a similar position to NAKO: I doubt that the Canada-US border will be open to leisure travel by July 11 (our proposed date for VanJam7), so we're exploring options for online participation and hangout. I was talking with Matt Sweets the other day and we touched on this briefly.. they've been really killing it with online participation and engagement, so I'm hoping I can pull some advice from him on what works / doesn't work as the day gets closer. Our ultimate goal with Van Jam remains unchanged: get the dama homies together! Have some good times! This can still happen even if there are some computer screens stuck in between us.
