This is a behavioral pet peeve but I don't like when people call each other out (in a rude manner) on their dama or performance flaws. It's good to constructively criticize a homie if you want to see them progress faster and at a higher level but sometimes it's just a buzzkill, especially if that person is a beginner or is early on and just learning. If you're gonna do it, do it nicely or not at all. Especially because kendama - when not done in a competitive setting - should be all about having fun. It's not nice to constantly tell someone that they didn't do something right when there technically shouldn't be a right or wrong way.

Some of my fav Japanese lady slayers to watch straight up miss a trick and keep going after putting the tama back on the ken with their hand. LOL. Like - really it's about having a good time, who gives a shit? I personally hate hand string adjust but if I saw someone constantly do it, I wouldn't go out of my way to tell them they suck, or they're wrong. Sure I could express to or around them that I personally think it makes tricks look a little less steezy than they would otherwise, but I don't think it should be in anyone's business how someone plays the dama on their own time and enjoyment.

I hate it when the string loops around the spike whenever I am jamming... seems to happen about a million times lol

    - When I host a Kendama contest or giveaway and people don't read/follow the directions, even though the first rule is "1) Read these directions carefully." I sadly have to disqualify them, and I feel bad! Haha!

    - When I'm playing a game of KEN or DAMA with someone, and they attempt a trick that's like a minute long, that even they can't remember what they landed. When we get to "Prove it," they totally can't. *eye roll*

    - Another pet peeve is pretty much what @Jenny Cho said above ^^^ ! It's totally rude for calling people out on a trick they're doing "wrong" or pointing out their flaws. In a competitive setting, I think it's appropriate for a judge to call someone out for handing a trick. But if it's just someone playing Kendama on IG in their own house, constructive criticism is key, but not borderline bullying them for doing something "wrong." AND, if the person really did hand a trick and denies it, that's a bit of a pet peeve as well.

Kendama is played for enjoyment! If you're not competing or if you're not playing a game of Ken, who cares how they play? Just have fun! Stop being so mean. Hahaha!

LOL. Accurate. When it's like: "Let's play a game of ken!" "Ok!" Then they proceed to be like: Dub spacewalk, swap spike, switch grip, tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap juggle juggle juggle juggle juggle juggle juggle juggle kenflip juggle juggle juggle spike.

    -_- No.

IMHO I think a lot of people get way too overexcited about the whole community thing. It's great when there is a reason to be pumped, but sometimes it just seems so over the top that I find it a bit ridiculous. Maybe it's just me, but if my friend lands his first around the world or whatever, I don't get super hyyyyyyyped! on it. I'll smile and tell him "good job", but I've seen people in videos get/act extremely excited when people do their first pull-up spike. Maybe it's for show, I don't know.

I do understand that it helps the new player understand that he/she just did something cool, and it might encourage them to play more, but I can never bring myself to do it. Even when I was starting out people were like "SIIIIIICK" when I told them that I had just done my first light house. I thought it was kinda lame. I did not feel that LH was a hard trick, as much as I felt that I was just not that good at it yet. I'll take the credit if I do something really cool, but I won't have it for something basic. That's also the attitude I wear around other players.

Like, whatever makes you happy. I am not saying that people should be completely stone faced and act cold, because that would be waaaaaaaay worse, and I have very much enjoyed the community aspect of the events I've attended. But I just can't stand stand when people are all rainbows and unicorns about it.

A couple of other pet peeves:

    - Elitist behaviour
    - Cringy amounts of kendama slang

Regarding the first spike catch, I've seen that energy and excitement first hand. . . a lot. Most of the time it's after someone has been really trying their hardest to learn to play and then after they've been taught spike, which to a newbie looks practically impossible, they get really excited and that's often the hook that makes them want to keep playing.
