As the title says, I can land J sticks ok but I just can't seem to get that consistent with them is it just all feel and practice?

Try to learn how to get the ken rotation slower.
Late release point, throw higher, etc

You’ll arrive at a point where the ken rotates slowly enough for your eyes to keep up with the spike tip movement.

After that it’s a matter of using your knees to adjust the height, and how far down you go for the catch.

I agree with slowing down the rotation, this is pretty much the case for learning all tricks where a spin or a turn is involved. Go slow and use a smooth motion of the knees, using those knees will buy you eyes some time to line the trick out.

I've gotten pretty consistent with it now I would say 8/10 times I nail it! I went slower like y'all said and now I can get it quicker my norx mod helps with keeping an eye on the spike
