Is DIY kendama finish a thing?

I searched around before asking, I promise.

Is there some kind of kendama finish your can make or buy to put on the tama to replace paint that has been chipped off? Some of my kendamas are getting quite beat up, and it’s making it a real struggle to land tricks like lighthouse, because the ken just slips off, every time. If this isn’t a thing, can I repaint them with the same kind of paint somehow?

 

I recently heard of someone using flex seal but I'm not really sure if it works. They guy said it worked alright though

 

Some paints like Sweets’ cushion clear and pro clear are made by them, so you’d be hard pressed to replicate it since it’s a trade secret that they wont give out willingly. Custom painters such as Kendama MPLS and Sourmash also have their own formulas that, again, wont be given out willingly.
Most factory sticky paints are similar, if not exactly the same as each other (the Deep Sea pro mod from KUSA is a good example of a sticky clear being different from other sticky clears available from the same brand).

Experiment, the flex seal seems like a step in the right direction but needs something to make it a but more durable and long lasting.

But tbh unless you know exactly what formula was used for the top coat it’s not going to be the same if you try to patch the paint and may make it worse (staining the cups when they make contact in that area of the tama or covering over the existing clear coat and making it unusable for example)

Hi guys! Does anyone have leads on how to apply a sticky/rubber clear coat on a tama? I'm asking because some companies and players are starting to handpaint their tamas now. Would like to learn how.
