I am currently editing an end of year sampler for YouTube. I have it at about 4mins 40 secs so far with one more clip still to get tomorrow.

Is that too long so someone would lose interest half way through?
    Or just right?

    Thoughts and opinions welcome!

That's perfect! Some of the best edits are 8 minutes and some them are 2. It really doesn't matter. Anything over 8 or so is just too long though unless it's some like a WKT, or Japan video. No basic kendama edit should be that long.

I agree. most edits should be 5 minutes or less.

if it's longer, chances are you have too much filler and not enough killer

Short and tight is ALWAYS better, if I load up an edit thats 5+ minutes, and its not something I already KNOW I really want to watch, then I'm just going to skip it, or maybe skip through and watch the ender trick or something.

The extreme of this is instagram. I like Wyatt and the COTK guys, cause when one of their posts comes up in my feed, it goes straight into the trick, and then its over. Some people like to add intros, and music, and OH! look at that, I already scrolled past, without watching it.

Not everyone feels the same, but thats my 2 cents.

The shortened attention span that comes along with instagram is all the more reason to focus on STORY when you're making a downspike worthy edit.
"Trick porn" belongs on the gram.
stories, characters, and laughs belong on DS.

Honestly if you can keep me engaged for the whole amount of time that your video is, I'll watch it. Most of the time if I see a video that is over 5 minutes long (kendama or not), I'm hesitant to click on it. But if I don't get bored while watching a long video, I'm all for it. So just don't make a long boring video is what I would say if you want people to watch it/stay interested

I am both guilty of this and in agreement with you at the same time. Our attention span has become so short...

I do enjoy a long edit on YouTube though. If it has a story and purpose then I am all about it

My personal favorite Kendama edits are usually around 2 minutes with some nice aesthetic to go with a few lines. A long line of decent tricks always impresses me more than one really hard trick and helps the video flow better.

Haha love the 'Trick Porn" belongs on the gram @Cheech_Sander.

A solid 3-5 min video is perfect length. Short and sweet with some dope tricks and filler shots. And of course lens flares... ; )

Totally depends on the type of "edit" in my opinion. If you're just lacing bangers, then yeah keep it short, definitely less than 5 mins. But if you're telling a story of some kind or have another goal with your video, I think that it can and should be as long as it needs to be. Trying to forcefully cram something too big into a short video can be just as bad as stretching out what should be a short video into a long boring one. Figure out the goal of the video, then let the length figure itself out appropriately.

I also agree with most people that 3-5 minutes is a great amount of time for a banger edit. A great example of this is @Dwesty 's tricks down under!
