Apologies if this has been asked somewhere else, I couldn't find the specifics.

Say one already has some wood balls/spheres in the correct size and wanted to drill them out to be tamas. I'm assuming a simple drill press would be all that is needed? Anything in particular there? Do you need to make some kind of jig to keep them centered? And also how is the tapered bevel done? Is there some kind of special bit that needs to be obtained for that?

I think this stuff is usually done on the lathe from what I've seen.... That being said, if I had those balls (phrasing*) I would probably give it a shot on the drill press. Be absolutely sure you've got it centered! I have seen some grinder bits that look about right for a bevel but that would be a real slow way to go! I would look into router bits. ....or just take the plunge on a lathe :)

Doesnt show drilling just wooden balls, but can give you an idea of how the process goes.
