What was your first kendama, mine was a red tribute that got jammed into dust? If you still have yours post some pictures. Would you recommend this kendama to a beginner?

I'll post a pic later today, but it was a black kendama USA, the spike is flat now, and the paint around the bevel is all wood! All cups are chipped. Played that thing to death

It didn't get teared to shreds since my tricks weren't that crazy yet and soon after bought a KenUSA, but it's still gotten much love

yellowoozy.jpg Mine was a yellow Ozora I got from someone on YoYoExpert. I got rid of it some time later because kendama pissed me off.

Here's a pic (ignore the DWI):

My 1st dama was this bamboo kenco shenzhu! I brought it everywhere with me during senior year of college. There's some micro cracks and small chips but still jam-able :3

Dont have a pic. But it was a blue tribby. All cups are tattered and chipped. Tama is thrashed. It's used and abused.

Same, red trib. I'll post a pic later, but I would definitely recommend it.
Great for beginners to see if they actually want to stick with it. Since it's not the easiest to do things like lighthouse or lunar on, I wanted to buy another to finally accomplish those things. Once I did, I wanted to keep going.

Hell yeah, those tribs were a good first ken. I got one from a friend who still plays a little but not everyday like me.

Why did it piss you off? Was it because of the slick paint? Anyways, my first dama was a light blue Yomega, and it's not completely jammed to shreds. It sort of slings pretty well, but the paint is WAY too icy. The thing about it though is that the paint so far doesn't have any major chips in it even though I played it for about 1.5 years!

I didn't pay any attention to the paint back then. I just got mad because kendama was so hard lol. I quit for about a year before getting back into it for good sometime in 2014.

I had a cheap YoMega gold kendama for $10. Wasn't even worth that... Destroyed it, then soon later got a kaizen Zebrano. That was 100% worth it!

The first kendama I got was from Walmart lol. I learned the basic tricks but somehow lost the ken so I moved on to a KenUSA Tribute.

My son's first Dama was a mama Kendama, sour face. We got it online after we googled "Japanese ball cup string" because we had no clue what it was called. He still has it and you can see the B in the big cup and S in the small cup. Both were written by Logan because he wanted to know cup he was using. Funny to see that still in his collection, it has given us several laughs over the years.

It would be awesome if his future pro model has the B and S engraved on the big and small cups, respectively!
Will be a funny way to remind him of his roots!

He dreams of one day having his own pro mod. That would be a cool addition if it ever happened.

They take forever to break in, but once it is, it is AMAZING. They are also super durable and never chip. When broken it stalls, lunars, lighthouses are all SUPER easy.
