Do any of you guys like to keep a few freshies on hand for breaking out at a future date?

Personally, I have 3 kendamas that are still in the box for future use.

I think I'm still stuck with the habit of seshing a freshie right when I get it. I really need to stop doing that...

I've sorta tried to do this, but curiosity always gets me. I do have one that's fresh but out of the box that I keep for possible competition use.

    Nothing wrong with that!

Personally, I like keeping a freshie or two on standby just in case I want to #SeshWithAFresh but I can't buy a dama immediately.

Yup! I have two right now. One is aging for my daughter. She’ll be the cool kid with a vintage fuchsia flash in a few years. The other is a 2.0.

I think my English teacher has a bunch of fresh GTs ready to be seshed. IIRC, one of them is a mocha GT-BH and another one is a Wine Mugen x HG...damn

Not gonna lie. I definitely have a stockpile of fresh kens I have not cracked into yet. I will play a ken until it is dust before I would open some of these. I also buy a lot of used kendamas so i usually jam those because they are already broken in. That helps a pot really.

planning on saving my yellow ozora I'm getting later this week. Not because of historical purposes or anything, but I just want to have a fresh dama for when I just want to jam a freshie.

I really should get into the habit of jamming a kendama into retirement before cracking open a freshie...

I have a permanent "no play" collection (sweets X mugen, yellow ozora, freshies from dead companies, etc) so I don't really see a problem with keeping some extras fresh especially with the intent to play them later on.

Most of the new kendama I get and plan to play are set up as soon as I'm able: glued tip, string length, wood finisher (if any), etc. That way they're ready whenever I want to try something different. I always have several in the slay pile because. . . different day different dama; kind of like having different kinds of tools for different jobs.

I did this with the masterchief prime custom since the phase 1 clear is supposedly better in the heat. Pennsylvania has had some weird weather lately so I haven't had the chance to really test this

I’d say this is pretty normal! I usually play one kendama exclusively for an extended amount of time. Although, I do know that a lot of people like to have different kendamas for different tricks like, birds, lunars, slingers, etc.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you! I prefer seshing one, and shelving another for later.
