As the title implies, I will be visiting the Tokyo area and was looking for good kendama shops. Any recommendations? Couldnt really find any on google. So far I have seen spingear. Thanks
I belive there is a dama shop in Japan called Yume or something. You might want to get some advice from @htimSxelA or @Jake Wiens . From what I know, they've been to KWC every year. Maybe @MattSweets could lend a hand in this sort of question.
Yume is a good store with a community of really strong players (Soma, Nobu, RIntaro, etc). It's in Hiroshima. If you're in Tokyo check out Decade in Harajuku, which sells BMX stuff, clothes, and kendamas (430) If you're in Osaka you can check out 3rd place, but I've never been there, I've only seen it on insta. these are only a few examples, but you might be better off reaching out to players than just visiting stores. if you go to any of these places it's worth making a call first to let them know you're coming. The japanese kendama scene is really welcoming and friendly. Have fun in japan!
In addition to the suggestions above you might find some good info in the following threads: Foreigners Guide to JKA exam and Dama Travels to Japan in General SU Lab kendamas?
Here are you place to go in the Tokyo area. • Decade in Harajuku, Tokyo. • Spin Gear in Akihabara, Tokyo. • Muumuu Coffee in Kyojima, Tokyo • Su Lab in Kawagoe, Saitama.
Any updates on this? I'm gonna be in Tokyo in 3 weeks and I'm trying to get some damas. I'm already planning on going to SuLab and Decade, and I've been to SpinGear before. Just wondering if there's more shops to look out for. Side note: Does anyone know where to find Kenholix damas in the Tokyo area?
Yeah, I would super appreciate it! I'll be there from March 15th-30th so if he can get more in that time frame, that'd be amazing.
Hey all, a friend and I are going to be in Tokyo from March 15th til the 30th and we're looking to meet up with local slayers and jam. If anyone knows of any jams in the area or wants to meet up and play some dama, let me know. It'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
@jooshbag1108 trying to keep all the area related threads together so moved your other post here so everyone can find the information. I've also adjusted the title to reflect this thread can also be used for connecting with folks in the area. Decade 430 is usually a good place in Harajuku (lots of other things to do in that area as well) to meet players and sometimes you'll see some jamming on the side streets near the shop too. Su Lab I hear is good but the location is a bit of a ways from Tokyo.
@jooshbag1108 forgot to mention that if you end up in Harajuku aim for some day other than Thursday and you can drop into Oriental Bazaar for some good travel gifts. It's one of the places I usually recommend when taking in the sights around the Harajuku and Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine) area.
Hi everyone, Loving the posts about kendama in Japan, and shout out to @zacktrials for the thread. I'm a beginner kendama player for about 4 months, influenced by my older brother who has started to make his own kendamas. I'm still very very n00b but I do enjoy playing with wanting to be a great player. Based in Australia too btw. I'm currently on holiday with my wife, and done some travelling. Definitely, recommend the shinkansen rail pass to get around. I've been to Hiroshima best way to get there from Osaka, and a the local train hatsukaichi, Yume kendama store is literally outside the station vesering to the right and a small street. Ended up buying a Mugen Musou natty with replacement tips. Very quiet on the day I visited and you can see some hectic used damas there. A train stop away from hatsukaichi, you can walk down the path and you follow it all the way down and you can see the kendama monument and there is also a kendama like a playground there also.. Like, some shapes of the playground are kendamas. A decade in Harajuku is another quiet nice store initially difficult to find but got there eventually. They have a few JAC Kendamas there, I ended up getting the JAC X Sweets Kendama colloab. This weekend zoomadanke are performing somewhere but not sure where. I also picked up a Zora Premium in a red wine sticky paint by random in a place called Bic Camera in Tachikawa where I'm staying in Tokyo. Sorry for the long post. Hope you guys find this post relevant
Hey, if you're going to be in Tokyo, you definitely want to visit Decade and Su-lab. Keep in mind that Su-lab is closed on Thursdays and 3rd Wednesdays. Also, Decade is holding a kendama session on March 24th starts 19:00. Go check the DECADE Tokyo facebook page for details. Hope you have a good time in Tokyo.
