Get some Tama tack or get a kendama with a sticky finish

    Practice.
    Like a lot.
Just put the ken on the tama, as if you hit the trick.
Try and keep it on for as long as you can, then try to wiggle it a bit, walk in a circle, walk up some stairs, anything you can to try and make it progressively harder.

A number of us here mastered lighthouses on more slippery stuff than what you have, so i’m hella sure you’d be able to hit it, too.

Going for a tackier / stickier tama doesn’t help you in the long term.

I Also feel that if I used a really sticky tama It would be like cheating, I like playing with my natty so I'd be screwed.

I remember when I was learning Lighthouses, once the landing hit I would look up at the sarado for balance. You can see more of which way the ken is tipping to counteract the action and recenter the balance. As I got more of the feel of balancing, my eyes moved but by bit lower to the contact with the tama. Holding the tama at about belly button to chest high is where your center of gravity lays also.

I landed my first lighthouse on a red trib. I'm pretty sure it was the most still I had ever been in my life lol. I missed the in, but man it was a good feeling to finally land a lighthouse.

If you're landing it 2/15 times, then that's already a good start! You've already done the hard part, which is doing it once! My motto, in terms of tricks, is that anything you've done once, you can do again.
All you have to do from here is to keep doing lighthouses. Once you build the muscle memory, tricks that were once difficult will become second nature.

This is a good tutorial on lighthouses, I learned all of the basic tricks off of the old Sweets tutorials back in 2014.

There thing about them is that I found out you need to make sure the big cup is ment to be facing you so its uncomfortable for me now trying to get it up correctly.

There are some good tutorials on YouTube. Have you ever checked out the Kendama USA or Sweets tutorial? They give some great tips! Lighthouses were my toughest trick starting out (didn't help that I tried to land them on an Ozora or Shinfuji).

Yeah but as you get more comfortable with holding the lighthouse you will be able to turn the tama so that big cup is facing you. Just practice pulling the ken up super straight, thats how I got good at them, along with trying to catch the ken at its peak, right before it falls.

POP is a good one to get lighthouse on. Make sure when you tug the string up you "correct" for the hole in the sarado-
You'll notice the kendama does not hanging perfectly straight, but about a 5% tilt to the left.

Tug up and SLIGHTLY to the right to adjust for the tilt. After that, it's pretty much just knees.

Anyone else learned swing up to lighthouse first? I can actually swing into it waaaay more consistently than I can do a normal pull up. I am decidedly not jka approved.

For actually balancing houses, one thing that has helped me more than anything, is staring at the tip of the spike once you land it

I'm actually pretty proud of you for using the natty bamboo for lighthouse practice. Most kids these days use sticky or tacky paint. In the short term, it is harder, but if you practice hard on the natty, it'll pay off. Not saying you can't use the sticky tama to start, but practicing on a natty really helps
